Coordinator ICTP, Sheridan College
William Farkas has degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering with interests in communications systems stretching back to his amateur radio days as a teenager. In the early 90’s Bill worked to get ministry approval for an IP engineering program at Sheridan College. This led to the Internet Communications Technology (ICT) program, with its focus on Internet Protocol communications, which is now the oldest and most prestigious undergraduate (diploma/degree) program of its kind in Canada. Bill (ICT program coordinator and professor) has evolved with the program as it tracks the technologies of the Internet. Bill has received several federal research grants which have included the development of a sonification system for complex networks (transforming large scale data metrics into music) and more recently examining commercial potential for UCaaS under private cloud (Openstack). Academically his current focus is the evolution of SDN (Software Defined Networks) and network security.
