General Counsel, CIPPIC
David Fewer is General Counsel of the University of Ottawa’s Samuelson-Glushko Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC), Canada’s only public interest technology law clinic. CIPPIC’s mandate is to advocate for balance in policy and law-making on issues arising out of new technologies. David joined CIPPIC in November 2004. His work focuses on training students in effective legal advocacy, producing public education materials, and articulating a public interest perspective in public policy debates and important court cases at the intersection of law and technology.
David graduated with a B.A. in 1993, an LL.B. in 1996, and Master of Law degree in 1997 – all from the University of Toronto. He has clerked at the Federal Court, practiced law at national firms in Vancouver and Ottawa, and appeared as counsel before all levels of Canadian courts up to and including the Supreme Court of Canada.
