We all have smart phones in our pockets these days allowing high speed network access just about anywhere. But few of us consider what is between the phone+tower and the Internet.  There is a magical jungle called the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) which is full of byzantine, arcane, and strange acronyms full of juicy attack surfaces.  The trick is knowing what they are, how to find them, and how to talk to them.

In this talk, you will learn the difference between an SGSN and GGSN, and by the end know how to talk about SCTP, GTP-C, and S1AP.  You’ll also learn how to make these machines crash and just how soft and target rich the mobile packet core is.
