The Event

 Where and when is SecTor held?

SecTor is held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) in the South Building on the 800 level. SecTor 2018 will take place October 2 and 3 with our optional pre-conference day on October 1.

 

What is the conference schedule?

We have seven tracks consisting of three technical, one management, one security fundamentals, one tool and one sponsor track. The schedule for our 2018 event will be posted after second round speaker selection.

 

Who is speaking and what topics will be covered?

Speakers and their sessions for 2018 will be announced in mid-May for our round one selections, and the full lineup in August after round two. Where can I find out about speakers and sessions?

Speakers and session information is posted on our website: https://sector.ca/schedule/ as speakers are selected and confirmed.  We also provide updates through social media.

 

Who should attend?

IT Security Practitioners, Management and CxOs should attend SecTor.  For all levels of attendee there is a plethora of material to consume.  Content is selected by the SecTor Advisory Committee based on timeliness, relevance and practicality, ensuring it is both current and useful.

Will the sessions be available after the conference?

Yes. Session presentations and keynote videos will be posted after the conference at sector.ca/presentations.

Registration

How much is the conference?

Please visit the register section of the website for current rate information.

 

What is included in the full conference registration fee?

Full conference registrants receive access to all tracks and sessions, including access to the expo hall and the keynote hall. Full conference registrants have access to the networking reception and party, receive a conference bag and are provided lunch and light refreshments both days of the event.

 

Can I attend pre-conference activities but not the conference?

Yes, you can sign up for the expo and add one of the pre-conference activities to your registration.  Visit our expo page for more information: sector.ca/expo.

 

Can I modify my existing SecTor registration to add a pre-conference activity?

Yes. On your original electronic receipt there is an edit/change registration option. Select this option to edit your existing registration and add a pre-conference activity.

 

Are there any discounted conference rates?

10% discount codes are available from all SecTor sponsors.  We also offer 20% off for groups of five or more.  Note, these codes do not extend to pre-conference activities.  The pre-conference activity training is discounted by $100 for full conference attendees.

 

How can I register to attend?

When will registration open?

How can I pay for the conference?

We accept MasterCard, Visa and Amex.

 

What is your cancelation and refund policy?

Depending on the time you cancel you will get a refund less $75 administrative charge.  Please see our refund/substitution policy for more information Sector_Refund_Subsitution_2018

 

Is there a discount if I sign up for both the training and the full conference?

Yes.  Full conference registrants will receive $100 off the price of the pre-conference training.

 

What do I need to bring to the conference to collect my badge?

To collect your badge, please bring valid photo identification and your registration confirmation bar code (printed out or visible on your mobile device) Note, your registered name must match that of your valid ID.

 

What if my ID and preferred name don’t match? What name should I register with?

Please register using your name as it appears on your valid ID.

If you have a different preferred name please contact us at management@sector.ca as soon as possible to request a change.

 

What do I need to bring for training?

Requirements are set forth by the trainer. For more information please check your specific course online: https://www.sector.ca/training.

 

I am registered as an Expo attendee, what can I see and do at the conference?

If I have registered and cannot attend am I able to get a refund?

Refunds are subject to our refund and substitution policy – see Sector_Refund_Subsitution_2018 for more details.

 

Can I transfer my registration to someone else?

Yes, however you must update your profile to show the new attendee’s name and contact details.  If this is not done the substitute will not be in our database and consequently will not gain entry to the conference.

 

What if I lose or forget my badge?

All misplaced or forgotten badges are subject to a $300 reprint fee.

Venue and Conference Logistics

What time does the conference begin and end?

On day one, the conference begins at 8:50am with opening remarks and the morning keynote. The last sessions on day two conclude at 3:40pm.

 

What are the hours for the Expo?

The Expo is open on Tuesday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

 

Where is the MTCC?

The MTCC is in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The North Building is located on 255 Front Street West and the South Building is located on 222 Bremner Boulevard.  SecTor is held in the South Building of the MTCC.

 

How can I get to the MTCC?

You can drive or take transit to the MTCC.   Paid parking is available for both the North and South building.  The MTCC is a short walk (indoors or out) from Union Station.  Budget 10 minutes to walk from the North building on Front Street to the lower (800) level of the South Building, or 20 minutes from Union Station. Is there parking available?

Parking is available at the MTCC

 

Is there local accommodation available?

There are many hotels within the vicinity of the MTCC. We have negotiated discounted rates with a select few – for more information: https://www.sector.ca/travel

 

Will there be food served at the conference?

For full conference attendees, a light selection of pastries is offered both mornings and a hot buffet lunch with vegetarian options is provided both days of the conference. Coffee and tea are available during breakfast, lunch and the afternoon break.  Food for purchase will be available at a grab and go cafe located on the 700L.

 

Will WiFi be available?

Yes.

 

Will you be selling merchandise at the conference?

Yes. Merchandise varies from year to year. Transactions are cash only and an ATM is available near registration. We accept both Canadian and American currency.

 

What parties or activities are available at SecTor?

Full conference attendees are encouraged to join us at the Steam Whistle party after day one of the conference. Other activities occurring during SecTor are listed at https://www.sector.ca/activities

CPE Credits

How are my CPE credits recorded by ISC2?

Include your CISSP number when registering.  Following the conference, SecTor will forward your number, along with the number of days in attendance at SecTor, to ISC2.

 

How many CPEs can I earn?

You will receive one CPE credit per hour, including pre-conference training.  For the two-day SecTor conference you will receive 16 credits. The number of credits for pre-conference activities is dependent on the number of hours scheduled.

 

I am an Expo Attendee, can I earn CPE credits?

Expo attendees will receive up to 2 CPE credits for attending SecTor (one per day).  You are also entitled to CPE credits for any pre-conference activity you attend (one per hour of activity).

 

Can I earn CPE credits for other certifications through your training/event?

At this time we do not automatically send credits for other certifications e.g. ISACA.
